Shaping the future of liquid electronics through collective intelligence

Liquid electronics are redefining how technology can sense, compute, and interact with the world. By embedding intelligence directly into fluid, adaptive materials, these emerging systems move beyond rigid architectures and open new possibilities for resilient, low-energy, and sustainable electronics.

From robotics and healthcare to energy harvesting and future computing, liquid electronics promise technologies that can heal themselves, adapt to their environment, and operate where traditional electronics fail. Yet as this new paradigm takes shape, its long-term impact will depend not only on scientific progress, but on how innovation is guided, governed, and shared.

Liquid electronics sit at the intersection of materials science, computing, ethics, policy, and industry. Their development is inherently complex and interconnected, making isolated innovation insufficient. What is needed is a collective approach – one that connects data, expertise, and perspectives across disciplines and sectors.

COgITOR was created to enable this shift. By combining data-driven ecosystem mapping, stakeholder engagement, and foresight on ethical, social, and environmental implications, COgITOR helps transform fragmented innovation into coordinated action. The project supports informed decision-making, anticipates risks and opportunities, and promotes responsible design from the earliest stages of technological development.

This teaser, developed by PNO Innovation, reflects this approach by translating research outcomes into a clear, accessible narrative on the long-term impacts of liquid electronics. Authored by Chiara Zocchi and Chandra Gracia Anweta, it brings together data analysis, innovation mapping, and responsible innovation principles to support dialogue among researchers, industry, and policymakers.

Through collective intelligence, COgITOR contributes to building an innovation landscape where liquid electronics can evolve safely, sustainably, and in alignment with societal values. The goal is not only to advance technology, but to ensure that its benefits are shared, its risks are understood, and its direction remains open, transparent, and inclusive.

The future of electronics will not be rigid. It will be fluid, adaptive, and deeply connected to its environment. By working together across disciplines and borders, we can shape this future – transforming liquid electronics into a force for long-term societal and environmental value.
